Dimensions for Living (DFL) is a small Devon based charity set up by parents to raise awareness of the complexities of ageing with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Dimensions for Living challenges the services in the lack of provision to support the growing need of people on the spectrum namely Asperger syndrome. DFL offers support and outreach to families and mature individuals on the spectrum by bringing together knowledge and experience to assist families and individuals to make sense of the maze they have to experience in order to get some support and training. DFL helps through its social groups, people to understand their condition better, supporting them into the community, employment and generally learning skills to enable them to live and work where possible within the community. Dimensions for Living offers support to individuals with Asperger syndrome through social group meetings which are held throughout the county on regular basis, offering information, training, general living skills as well as counselling and social activities, encouraging participation. Groups meet on a regular basis in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Plymouth. Access to our groups is on a referral basis and can be self referred. Please contact Dimensions for Living to request a referral form. DFL offers support and training to employers as well as to persons on the spectrum to maintain employment, also DFL works closely with the police and criminal justice system raising the awareness of the complexities of the spectrum and how best to cope with persons affected. DFL also operates the Devon Autism Alert Card scheme supplying these credit card sized cards to folks on the spectrum throughout Devon to all who are 11 years and above. This scheme is supported by the Devon & Cornwall Police and all three Devon Councils..
