The Additional Support for Learning Department is part of Pupil Support. Its role is to provide additional support in all areas of the curriculum for those pupils who may require it. The Additional Support for Learning Department works closely with all subject departments to assist pupils across the whole range of subject areas - this can take place in the subject classroom and by small group extraction. Pupils with specific learning difficulties will be offered our Specific Skills course. This course uses a multi-sensory approach and covers a variety of skills and strategies, which it is hoped will assist pupils to cope with and alleviate their difficulties. Curricular targets may be set in order to monitor individual pupil progress. Where there is a requirement for small step planning of the curriculum, Individualised Educational Programmes (IEPs) may be provided to enable pupils with special educational needs to achieve agreed targets. This is a working document to help teachers plan pupil learning and monitor progress over a specified period of time. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils if they have been through Disclosure Scotland.
