Type of service: Assessment, Day schools, Schools
The name of the provision for pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is Silver Base. The school is a secondary special school for pupils aged 11-19 years. Pupils with an ASD are included into all class groups where possible. They are given additional support in areas such as social story telling. There is specific provision for 18 severely autistic pupils with severe learning disabilities (SLD). The school caters for 6 pupils Key Stage 3 (KS3), KS4 and Post 16. Within the 18 is a group of pupils with Asperger syndrome who are accessing General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSEs) by linking into other class groups in school. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. All volunteers have to have criminal records bureau (CRB) checks by the local authority. Normally we would not put volunteers in Silver Base but may do so if they specifically asked. College / further education (FE) provides 6 places for pupils post 16 years of age.
