Fairfield Farm College (formerly known as Fairfield Opportunity Farm) is a small specialist college which focuses on vocational and independence training. The college is committed to helping students to become more independent and develop their self-confidence. Courses last for 3 years. The choices in vocational curriculum include catering, engineering, farming, horse studies, horticulture, woodwork. Other curriculum areas are daily living skills, communication, numeracy and computers. Each student has an individual programme. Leisure activities and social training are part of the curriculum, and students visit the swimming pool, cinema, bowling alley, pubs, Gateway Club, and community events in the village. The College has 5 houses in the village with up to 7 students in each supported by 1 or 2 staff in each house at all times. The students are encouraged to take part in the day-to-day running of the household. The college site has a twenty six acre farm, well resourced teaching areas and a student common room. Students benefit from a very practically based course which involves learning skills on a small scale at the college and, whenever appropriate, visiting related businesses which carry out similar activities on a commercial scale. Each student has a personal tutor and a key worker, who are readily available to discuss any issues or concerns they may have about college life.
