Farringdon Autistic Spectrum Provision (ASP) caters for 32 students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), aged 11-16 years. We are a city-wide provision, serving Sunderland. Our students have personalised timetables, but access a target of 80% mainstream access. We employ a holistic approach, seeing our students' social, emotional and sensory needs as paramount. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils eg Trainee teachers, nurses, Teaching Assistants (TAs), parents and work experience. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Interventions, approaches and programmes offered by the school are: anger management, circle of friends, counselling (visits from therapy dog), social skills groups, speech and language therapy (programmes delivered by Teaching Assistant (TA)), aspects of Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH), sensory integration, language enrichment, phonics and specialised Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education.
