Flying with Autism

Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies

The lives of many families are affected by autism. For many parents, the prospect of a journey by air is too daunting to contemplate because of the worry of how their autistic child will react to this unique environment. The new sounds and sensations of air travel, together with the noise and bustle of an airport can be unnerving and frightening to anyone the first time, but for someone with autism, this can be greatly amplified. As a result, many parents avoid the risk of booking expensive holidays due to concerns as to how their child will react. To overcome this problem the “Flying with Autism” initiative will give families the opportunity to take their child on a 30 minute Experience Flight in a controlled environment before making the commitment to paying for an expensive holiday abroad. In addition parents and/or carers will be armed with all the knowledge they need to help make the experience a success. The first course is in two parts; The Ground course (Luton) - 28th February 2016 Two adults/carers to attend this course (the ground course is not available for children to attend) and, 30 minute Experience Flight (Stansted) 13th March 2016. The same two adults who attend the ground course together with the child with autism (total of 3 passengers per group) will then take the Experience Flight. Please contact FOF Events Ltd for further information and/or future courses or www.flyingwithautism.com .
