Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities
Main information
Type of service: Training providers, Training providers
The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities is part of the Mental Health Foundation. The Foundation offers a variety of in house and bespoke training around autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and learning disability issues. Some of our training is focused on learning disability and ASD awareness. We have offered this training to a wide variety of organisations including; the criminal justice system, tribunal judges and employment organisations. We are currently also running several learning disability awareness training sessions from our London office throughout the year. Another key aspect of our training is around ensuring people with learning disabilities and ASDs are involved in planning for the future. Our training on Thinking Ahead is for local authorities to think about how to support families to plan for their learning disabled son or daughter’s life. We have worked with organisations to develop their internship programmes so as to make reasonable adjustments for interns or employees with Asperger syndrome, ensuring that they receive appropriate mentoring and are supported to have successful work placements. We also provide training and support to employers. Furthermore, we run regular workshops on Community Connecting, helping people who work with or support people with learning disabilities to be a part of where they live and develop lasting and meaningful lives within the community.
