The name of the unit for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Specialist Teaching Facility (STF) for ASDs. There are 30 pupils with ASD generally in the higher ability range. The majority attend mainstream classes with Teacher Assistant (TA) support. They are included in all aspects of school life. They are dis-applied from certain subjects according to individual need, as and when desirable. There is provision in Key Stage 3 (KS3)/KS4 for 11-18 years. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. They must have a suitable criminal records bureau (CRB) check and are researching autism or have a desire to work with children with an ASD.
