We are a provision within a mainstream school supporting students with social and communication difficulties. Students are supported by trained keyworkers overseen by a teacher for autism. Students access mainstream lessons with or without support and attend provision based tutorials focussing on social, communication and life skills. Students may be taught relaxation techniques and some access the school counsellor. Keyworkers liaise with a speech and language therapist where required and deliver specific programmes. A peer support programme trains mainstream students to develop an understanding of those supported by provision and to work as 'buddies' around school. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Other interventions, approaches and programmes offered by the school are positive behaviour support, peer support programmes and life skills. This is a secondary provision for students on the autism spectrum who require additional support within a mainstream setting.
