Grangewood School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Schools
We are a primary school for children with severe learning difficulties. About 50 per cent of the pupils also have a diagnosis of autism. The school offers places to pupils between the ages of 3-11 years. There is a focus on 'visual learning' using photos and symbols. There is a strong speech and language therapy team, occupational therapy (OT) and creative therapies that work alongside the class teams. Each child has an individual learning plan that incorporates skills that promote "readiness to learn" eg listening or looking. The support from the therapies is dovetailed into each child's learning plan. There is also a strong extended day service which incorporates after school clubs, swimming club, theme days and holiday play schemes. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
