Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
Heathermount School is a specialist school providing education for students aged 5-19 years. We offer individual bespoke learning packages to children and young people with autism spectrum conditions (ASCs), dependent upon ability, needs and interests. Our students access the National Curriculum and are entered for nationally recognised accreditations which include General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSEs). Running in tandem with the National Curriculum, we offer a range of vocational qualifications which include Skills for Working Life, Personal Learning and Thinking skills and work experience opportunities. The school has a complement of teaching and support staff who are specialists in the field of autism and who are experienced in the needs of these young people. Heathermount uses its in-house autism specific approach of BERIS which stands for: B-Body basics; E-Environment (structure); R-Relatedness (communication); I-Insight; and S-Self belief. Heathermount also has the support of external consultants who provide support and training to all staff.
