Hendon School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Schools
Hendon School’s Autism Resourced Provision (HARP) supports students with an autism spectrum condition (ASC) from Year 7 to Sixth form to access mainstream lessons and extra curricular activities within this thriving comprehensive school. HARP comprises a suite of rooms in the heart of Hendon School: a safe space and base for students with an ASC where they learn and spend leisure time and from which they go to mainstream classes with their peers, supported by specialist Teaching Assistants (TAs). We aim to ensure that students feel safe, understood, content and valued while simultaneously developing the desire, skills and resilience to be part of a neurotypical world. We strive to provide for each individual the appropriate level of 'scaffolding' to help him or her to thrive at Hendon and in the wider community. Each student has an individualised programme and timetable based on his/her strengths, interests and to support in areas of difficulty throughout their time at school and the HARP Sixth form is able to offer a combination of Social and Lifeskills and Work Preparation courses in addition to BTECs and A levels in more academic courses.
