Hillside Specialist School and College educates pupils with autism from Lancashire. Hillside School promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to the pupil’s education and care that includes speech and language therapy support working collaboratively with a highly qualified and dedicated staff. There are eleven classes in the school that are organised according to Key Stage and the College has three classes organised by year group. Each class is staffed by a teacher and learning support staff. Some classes may have additional support according to the needs of the pupils enabling them to implement and promote positive behaviour and learning. The school has two minibuses and two people carriers enabling regular access to facilities in the local community including leisure centres, swimming, climbing, libraries, shops and cafes. There is also the opportunity to take part in educational visits and extended residentials. Meals are cooked on the premises and specialist diets may be accommodated by special arrangements. Volunteers may be accepted to work alongside the pupils.
