Honley High School Resourced Provision for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is based in South Kirklees. It has twenty places for students in total. The provision is fully inclusive where students are encouraged to access the mainstream curriculum. Students with ASD are then withdrawn for small group teaching of the provision's additional curriculum. The main aim of the provision is 'education for life'. The additional curriculum includes Personal and Social Education (PSE) and sex education, social and communication skills, independent travel, cooking, shopping, work placements and understanding, some maths and English for everyday living, and management of their ASD. Honley High School Resourced Provision encourages students to be as independent as possible whilst recognising the impact ASD has on a person's life. Support is available in lessons and at social times. Staff are always available to talk to/counsel students at the time of stress and students can use a quieter baseroom when wanting to work in a quieter environment or when needing time out to manage their ASD. Students in the Resourced Provision are assessed within the mainstream school by specialist support teachers. The Resourced Provision provides specific assessment of the difficulties associated with ASD.
