Type of service: Speech and Language Therapists (independent)
The service offers diagnostic assessment in order to confirm diagnosis as part of an assessment protocol. Juanita is trained in Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH), verbal behaviour, Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) and many other autism specific intervention aids. She is a regional Makaton tutor and runs courses on behalf of many LEAs. As well as her own caseload, she has contracts with various Local Education Authorities (LEAs) to provide autism spectrum disorder (ASD) training and consultancy within mainstream primary and secondary schools. She has attended tribunals as an expert witness and is currently assisting clients referred from the Children's Legal Centre to this effect. She can provide independent expert reports; make home visits; visit a client's nursery, school or college; attend tribunal/educational appeal committees. Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST) work - she now works with some private and voluntary services eg SEN Legal, SOS!SEN, Educational Advocacy, MG Law and Sinclairs Law.
