Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
The Pears Special Resource Provision (PSRP) is an additionally resourced provision within JCoSS (Jewish Community Secondary School), offering up to fifty places (approximately seven per year) for pupils with autism spectrum conditions (ASCs). The PSRP is a unique resource within the Jewish community, aimed at meeting the needs of students who are able to access a mainstream curriculum but who require additional support in doing so, particularly in the areas of social and emotional education. We have the capacity and flexibility to provide both integrated and separated, specialist education as fits the needs and capacity of each student. Their different needs are met on an individualised basis via a Personal Learning Plan. There is a suite of autism-friendly specialist classrooms in a dedicated area of the school, but the Provision also integrates PSRP students across the whole school, support by specialist staff. They are integrated into mainstream lessons and activities on an individualised basis as and when it is appropriate. The social and emotional curriculum is enhanced by numerous trips, work experience, and expert intervention and therapy. To be eligible for consideration, they must have a statement or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names an ASC as their primary special educational need. Typically, PSRP students have prior attainment in line with their mainstream peers and the capacity over time to be integrated into mainstream lessons for the majority of their time at school. The admissions process is entirely separate from the mainstream school: Barnet Local Authority are the 'admitting authority' for PSRP places, and they give priority to students whose needs can best be met by the provision. Students in the mainstream, including those with statements/EHC plans for ASC, do not have access to the support or staffing in the PSRP.
