Jeesal Kelling Park
Main information
Type of service: Residential services, Supported living schemes
Jeesal Kelling Park, provides residential, assisted and supported living for young adults with a learning disability, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum/Asperger Syndrome. Expected cohort: Young people with a learning disability (preferably between the ages of 16-30 years - young at heart) who require/prefer single accommodation, where care is balanced with overcoming life struggles to go on to achieve health and growth as a young adult. Registration: Residential with a Supported living and assisted living model for young adults. Funding: In accordance with local contracts (between Band 1-3) and in further equation of need with the referrer/commissioner. Based just outside of the historical village of Holt, Jeesal Kelling Park will provide 14 individual flats for people between the age of 16-30 years, who currently require 24 hour support, available in a range of provisions within a large house. The 14 flats are all finished to a high and modern standard and are furnished with basic furniture requirements. 5 individual flats (with use of a communal kitchen facility) providing single accommodation, with bathroom, bedroom and lounge facilities will be situated in an environmentally managed annexe on one side of the setting - primarily to meet the needs of young adults who find socialising with others difficult. These are wheelchair accessible being ground floor accommodation. 7 of the flats on the other side of the setting have the full facilities of a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and lounge area. It is expected that these flats will accommodate young people who have gained a degree of independence and want to continue this progress within a supported or assisted living model. For most this will be the first move from home or Residential School. 2 flats offer the facility of independent access from the main house, thus providing the opportunity for two people to take back the reins of responsibility for themselves with supervisory support if and when required. The remaining part of the house offers a large communal lounge, a games room, a communal dining area and a separate seating area with a courtyard/gazebo/barbecue area outside for enjoying good weather. Individuals are encouraged to personalise their flats and to take an active role in decisions taken surrounding the communal rooms. The setting is a large house, previously used as a small hotel, neatly nestled within large grounds, which on one side has a forest with a steam railway line running through it and on the other side, a rural outlook. These rooms enable a diverse range of activities (formal and social), new learning and fun to be had. Based in the Hamlet of Holt, the local community also offers a number of conventional activities to be explored.
