Killamarsh Autistic and PDA Support Groups (KAPS)

Main information

Type of service: Play and leisure, Local groups, Social groups

The main focus of KAPS is to provide play and leisure opportunities to children and young people aged 5-16 years through summer playschemes, whilst at the same time providing valuable respite for parents. The group can also offer parents/carers advice regarding statementing and other issues concerning their child's disability. The summer playscheme runs for two or three weeks. Each week involves two days based at a local Scout Centre where children/young people can enjoy crafts and sociable games, plus three days of trips out, which can involve activities such as horse riding and visiting local attractions. If you are interested in applying for your child to attend the summer scheme, they will need a formal diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Pathological Demand Avoidance or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Please contact the group by email, text, or by leaving a message and ask for an application form. These are generally sent out around May/June each year. The playschemes are staffed by dedicated and experienced Co-ordinators, including Teachers and Teaching Assistants as well as parent volunteers. 12 places are available on each day, so depending on demand your child may be able to attend all or only some of the days of the scheme. Siblings can go along too if there's enough room. Priority will be given to families living in Derbyshire, although families from South Yorkshire can also apply.
