Kingarth
Main information
Type of service: Residential services
The service offers 7 short to medium term placements for adult males with learning disabilities who have found themselves, or are at risk of finding themselves in conflict with the criminal justice system. The service can accept people who have autism in addition to learning disabilities. Located in the Greater Manchester area, close to a town centre with access to the transport network, Kingarth has been specifically designed to bridge the gap for men between community living and secure services. Conceived by a team of practitioners with many years' experience in the field and inspired by conclusions of the Bradley Report, Kingarth is the United Kingdom's (UK's) first community based Residential Forensic Step Up/Step Down service to operate under the Care Quality Commission's (CQC's) Registered with Nursing category. The service is working to develop an outreach capability offering specialist support to individuals within their own homes..
