The name of the unit for pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is Supported Learning Centre - Specialist Resourced Provision. Kingsdown School has a specially resourced provision for pupils with autism. The pupils are academically mainstream capable but need extra help to access the mainstream curriculum. Pupils are supported by specialist Teaching Assistants (TAs) in mainstream lessons. They are also taught in withdrawal groups to help develop communication, interaction and life skills. Students attend one speech and language therapy session a week to help them develop communication skills. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils subject to Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and relevant experience.
