Langlands School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
Langlands is a special secondary school catering for children and young people in the region with severe and complex needs, including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The school is situated in the centre of Dumfries, enabling direct links with the local community. Provision at Langlands is flexible, to provide appropriate inclusion based on individual requirements. Some pupils may attend sessions at mainstream schools to access time with peers, together with achieving educational objectives. Parents and carers have much expertise to offer staff regarding their child. Therefore they are fully involved in contributing to the provision for their child and, are viewed as co-educators. All stakeholders are involved in the creation of the values and vision of Langlands as reflected in the Curriculum for Excellence. We welcome the advice and input from many outside agencies: Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Education Officers, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologist Community Children's Nurses, and Social Workers, to name but a few. We all work together to assess, create and maintain pupils' Individual Education Programme.
