Lanterns Nursery School and Children's Centre

This is an inclusive nursery school. Day sessions are 15 hours per week. Referrals for resourced special educational needs (SEN) places in the nursery school is via Hampshire Local Authority (West Hampshire Resourced Advisory Group). Nursery staff are trained in a range of strategies (timetables, taskships, picture exchange communication system (PECS), Social Stories, special time and identiplay etc.). Support is available from speech and language therapists (SALTs), occupational therapists (OTs) and physiotherapists. The Thomas Outreach Programme (TOP) provides outreach support for children under 5 years with autism spectrum condition (ASC) and social communication difficulties at home and local preschool provision. Refgerrals are via Lanterns to Hampshire Local Authority (LA). The EarlyBird course runs once a year, applications via information day. There is an SOS support group for parents once a month. Smart Start is a weekly group for children and carers with a range of SEND including ASC. Referral via Lanterns and therapists working with family. Children's Centre activities are inclusive and staff can respond to individual children's needs. It is open to families in the Winchester local area. The Early Years Outreach Service gives support for children with SEND (including ASC) in local preschool provision. Referrals are via the area Inclusion Team Leader in the Winchester area. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
