Lifeworks
Main information
Type of service: Employment services
Lifeworks is a voluntary organisation set up in September 2006 in Staffordshire, which enables adults with High Functioning Autism (HFA) and Asperger syndrome (AS), with or without a formal diagnosis, to gain employment . In supporting service users, Lifeworks endeavours to enhance their social and life skills and aid sustainability in employment.
Lifeworks uses a person centred approach and will negotiate with the service user to ensure their needs are met. Initially, all service users are profiled to assist Lifeworks in finding the most suitable employment. Following this, Lifeworks provides suitable training to help them in their chosen environment. This is accomplished through a variety of methods including mentors who work alongside the service user to enable them to grasp a better understanding of working situations.
Lifeworks will also train members of the workforce to understand their colleague's learning style and their particular needs. Furthermore, the organisation will step in on a 'one off situation' if an adult with this condition runs into a problem at work. In this event, Lifeworks is able to provide help and assistance whether this be at the request of the employer, family member, or the service user themselves. Lifeworks will only work with people who want their help.
Lifeworks is easily accessed by bus being on a major route. A helpline and Internet access is in place to support service users and their families. To make an appointment or a referral, contact Lifeworks on 01782 615 222.
As a charitable organisation Lifeworks are actively seeking funding to enable them to develop their unique service. Support through donations, organising fund raising or offering work placements are welcome.
