MacIntyre Abingdon Partnership (MAP) College
Main information
Type of service: Further & Higher Education
MAP (MacIntyre Abingdon Partnership) College is a specialist day college for students who have complex learning disabilities. Our particular expertise lies in supporting students with autistic spectrum disorders, through the use of person centred approaches to learning.
The college, which is operated in partnership with Abingdon & Witney Further Education College, offers students an individualised programme which is designed to prepare them for greater independence in their future lives.
The central focus for the planning and delivery of the curriculum is communication and social development. Students take part in a vast range of activities like art, horticulture and cooking, where core learning is embedded into all aspects of learning:
- Functional literacy and numeracy
- Personal development
- Social interaction
- Information and Communications Technology
We provide a range of vocational, practical and therapeutic learning activities, including work experience, which aim to develop life skills and independence. While some take place within the college, many are undertaken in the community. As our students develop their skills, we offer new activities so that they continue to learn and grow.
