Meridian
Main information
Type of service: Respite and short breaks
Meridian is a large, community based accommodation, which provides short break care and support to people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and people with learning difficulties. The service offers placement to young people aged 5-16 years on admission with a reduced number of people over the age of 18 who will be transitioning into adult services. Meridian can cater for DAMP syndrome and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). The house provides a secure, large and well equipped outdoor playing area, sensory/low stimulus rooms, a kitchen area conducive to life skills learning and very pleasant communal living rooms; all areas have been refurbished specifically to meet the needs of the young people, following in-depth consultation with parents/service users and relevant external consultancy services. Meridian is located in a busy community setting near to many local shops and amenities, including a supermarket, fast food outlets and a train station etc. This means young people can be supported in accessing the community, allowing for realistic individualised social integration and learning as well as access to a range of fun activities and community events.
