Church Lawton School is a free school sponsored by The National Autistic Society (NAS). Church Lawton School caters for 60 children and young people with autism (including Asperger syndrome) aged 4 to 19. The school is a collaboration between the NAS and local authorities, voluntary groups, schools and parents. The school will benefit from the NAS's 50 years' experience in the autism education sector and an evidenced commitment to continually improving outcomes for children and young people with autism. Free schools represent a new model of education.

Inclusion opportunities will be available for each child and may involve joining certain classes at mainstream school, or going to after-school clubs and other social occasions. Information Technology (IT) will be used to offer a range of learning opportunities and participation in community events will be encouraged. For some children, the first step toward inclusion will be learning to tolerate being in a classroom with one or more peers.

Church Lawton School will have a 'revolving door' policy for some pupils and equip them with the skills they need to be able to return to mainstream education.
