NAS Greater Manchester Residential Service
Main information
Type of service: Residential services
Service URL: http://www.autism.org.uk/manchester
Residential service in 4 houses in south Manchester, for a total of 13 adults. Our residential service provides year-round 24 hour support for adults with autism and Asperger syndrome. Our expert care and ideal environment enable people to learn, to become more confident and independent and to live full lives in a friendly and welcoming community. Everyone who lives in one of our houses has a light and cheerful single bedroom and shares comfortable communal lounges and dining areas. We encourage people to make their rooms their own by choosing the decor and accessories. We make the most of an excellent bus service into Manchester City centre, a busy cosmopolitan area with cinemas, theatres, art galleries, several shopping centres, museums and a mainline railway station. The residential service is near two NAS day services in Northenden. These centres offer a wide range of activities to help people to develop their skills and knowledge. In addition, everyone who lives here has an individual evening and weekend planner, incorporating activities such as pub trips, walks, outings or cinema trips. We want every adult we support to have the opportunity to develop and thrive and to be at the centre of their planning process. We work closely with people to create their individual plan and support them to keep it live. Through our knowledge and experience we enable people to communicate effectively, and to express their wishes. We also ensure that family, carers, friends and staff are full partners in the planning process and pride ourselves on our warm welcome. Staff are specially trained to provide high standards of support to people with autism, receiving comprehensive autism training and continuing to expand their knowledge and skills. Staff are required to complete the City and Guilds Learning Disability Qualification (LDQ) Award and work to achieve National Vocational Qualifications/Diplomas as part of their ongoing professional development.
