The Sybil Elgar School caters for students with autism between the ages of 4-19+ years providing day placements and weekly boarding, short breaks and holiday activity weeks. The Short Break Service is also available to students from other schools. The School is on three campuses, all which offer secure, stimulating and structured environments adapted to meet the needs of the students. The main administrative site is in Southall where there is an Early Years, Primary Department and a Secondary Department. The pupils have access to an adapted National Curriculum which is autism specific taught by highly trained teachers. The Further Education Unit is in Acton, which has an emphasis on the Performing Arts, Catering and Community Links. The Residential Unit is in Ealing which not only offers care for students. It also offers an extended curriculum which encourages the development of independent self help skills and social skills. There is an emphasis on PSHE, communication, empowerment, physical skills and the Sensory Curriculum across all settings. The enriched curriculum offers opportunities for activities such as swimming, yoga, dance, museum trips, and community work experience. The SPELL Framework is integral at the school using principals of bespoke approaches such as TEACCH, PECS, ABA, VBA, SCERTS, SI, Sherbourne, etc. There is a team of highly trained and experienced staff, including Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist.
