Newark Orchard School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Schools
Newark Orchard School opened in April 1996 as an Area Special School for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) whose ages are between 3 and 19 years. They strive to ensure that all outcomes from the school development plan address the identified needs of every young person. They have a curriculum which enables access for all and recognises individual needs. They will provide an environment that is conducive to learning and seek to improve facilities that support this. Every person in the school will be encouraged to develop and will be afforded equality of opportunity. They will work in partnership with governors, parents, local schools and all agencies who support youngsters with SEN. Another intervention offered by the school is the holding technique. Pupils are educated in mixed groups and in mainstream classes. Newark Orchard School strongly advocates inclusion and work to return youngsters towards a mainstream placement. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
