Norman Gate School is a small primary school catering for 70 pupils (20 part-time places in a nursery) with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including autism and Asperger syndrome, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome and learning difficulties. Pupils follow the full range of National Curriculum subjects with a strong emphasis on emotional health, communication and independence. Pupils with social communication disorders are taught inclusively. Structured social skills teaching is provided as part of the curriculum and thinking skills are emphasised. Children are taught through play and activity based lessons throughout school. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
