North Devon Independent Speech and Language Therapy
Main information
Type of service: Speech and Language Therapists (independent)
Hazel Ireland provides Speech and Language Therapy for children between the ages of 1-16 with all types of speech and language difficulties. She believes in making therapy fun and that learning through play motivates children and helps them to apply learnt skills into everyday life. Sessions are flexible and arranged to suit the child and their parent/carer. They can be offered in her clinic, at the client's home, or at the child's school or nursery (with the school's permission). Mileage costs are charged. Assessment sessions are usually an hour long, while therapy sessions can range between 30 and 45 minutes depending on the child. Hazel Ireland is happy to liaise with school staff and other professionals, working together to make positive changes for the child. Assessments typically involve taking background information, activities with the child and verbal and/or written advice. Activities for home may be provided and with consent, a report outlining assessment results and recommendations may be sent to relevant others (including independent expert reports). After the initial consultation an honest opinion will be given about whether a child needs speech and language therapy or not, treatment will only be offered to children who may benefit from it.
