North Hill House
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Residential schools, Schools
North Hill House opened in September 1999 and caters specifically for pupils with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and in particular Asperger syndrome, between the ages of 6 and 19 years. The school is situated near the centre of Frome, a market town in Somerset. The school is set in about three acres of grounds. It offers both seclusion and space and is accessible to the vitality of the local community. The client group is children who have been formally assessed and statemented. It is a residential school providing termly or weekly boarding and is happy to accommodate day pupils on a full or part time basis. The ethos of the school is a team approach. The team, which includes, an educational psychologist, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, the specialist teachers and carers formulate an individual programme of education for each student. A pupil's individual programme is structured through the Individual Education Plan (IEP). In this way the overall long-term targets are achieved through an holistic series of short-term attainable and progressive targets in education, communication, social skills and personal care. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
