Northcott School is a day maintained school for pupils aged 5-16 years who need a protective environment. The school has 115 places, 18 of which are within the specialist autism spectrum disorder (ASD) provision. The school has specialist status for communication and interaction. There is an outreach service which supports ASD pupils in local mainstream schools. We use a variety of approaches including Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH) and Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) as appropriate.
