Nottingham City & Nottinghamshire Parent Partnership Service
Main information
Type of service: Parent partnerships, Parent partnerships, Family support and information services
The Parent Partnership Service provides information, advice and support on education issues to parents/carers of children with special educational needs or a disability. It promotes partnership between parents, schools, the LA and voluntary organisations. The Service aims to assist parents and carers in getting their views heard and valued by professionals, and is available across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City. It provides: telephone helpline support; individual support from a volunteer to support with form-filling, report or letter writing; support at education-related meetings or talking through options; support at Drop-In sessions at local venues; training around special needs issues in education for volunteers, schools, governors and voluntary groups; talks to parent groups; a dedicated Asian support worker for Asian families where there are language or cultural barriers; specialist advice around exclusions; information in a range of community languages and alternative formats; contact with other local organisations who can help; leaflets on SEN topics, written specifically for parents and carers in a jargon-free style. Impartial advice and support to Nottinghamshire parents who are experiencing some difficulty around school admissions is also provided via Nottinghamshire Choice Advice, which is located within the service. Advice and practical help can be offered to support these parents in expressing a preference for a school place and in completing the necessary application forms.
