Oakham CofE Primary School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
At present, the school has a 20 place unit. This includes a 5 place autistic unit (there are children with autism and Asperger syndrome in the other unit also). There are 2 unit classrooms, 1 for children with autism. The other for Key Stage 2 children - all these children are integrated into mainstream classes during the week, some more than others. Key Stage 1 children who are not in the Autism Class are integrated full time into mainstream classes. During the literacy and numeracy hours, Key Stage 2 children benefit from small group work in the unit classroom when these areas of the curriculum are covered. The school aims to be flexible and meet the needs of the individual child. Staffing is currently 2.5 teachers, 2 nursery nurses, 6 learning support assistants and 3 lunchtime supervisors. The school gets support from both Leicestershire and Rutland Autism Outreach Services. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
