Provides assessment, treatment and care for adults with a learning disability and/or an autistic spectrum disorders in a low secure environment. The service actively encourages
the learning of life skills to allow all patients to achieve their optimum level of independence. All patients have a recovery plan which focuses on moving the patient through their shared pathway at a speed to allow the skills to embed, which helps to achieve a successful sustained discharge. .
The service has a dedicated multidisciplinary team with special interest in ASC including: Consultant psychiatrist; Clinical psychologist; Nursing and care staff; Occupational therapist; Speech and language therapist; Social worker; Physiotherapist; This team is supported by community; services of a dietician, GP, dentist, optician and chiropodist. Other specialist service providers can be
accessed where necessary. .
Care and treatment: Thorough pre admission assessment, with three monthly ongoing assessments, to ensure care and treatment is effective. Positive behaviour support programmes are utilised effectively to address challenging and offending behaviour. Recovery plans are utilised for all patients putting them at the centre of their care. Life skills training both on site and within the community.
Working in partnership with step-down providers in transition and discharge planning to ensure
a sustained discharge. ASDAN accredited courses are run in our on site ASDAN centre which caters for all levels of abilities. Meaningful voluntary work experience placements as the patient moves towards discharge. An active patient forum empowers patients to represent the patient group in relation to many areas of care including staff training, service developments and audit and CPA meetings. Communication passports and a focus on finding the correct method of communication for
each patient with input from the speech and language therapy department..
Referrals will be assessed within 48 hours, and suitability for the service will be confirmed within 48
hours of the assessment. Admissions are planned however emergency admissions are
always considered. .
