The Orkney Carers Centre provides: emotional support for carers; information about services available in Orkney; advice on carers issues e.g. benefits, council tax, grants available etc; advocacy for carers who require help and support e.g. at case reviews, with complaints etc; Young Carers Support Project - our Young Carers Support Worker is raising awareness of young carers issues and supporting the young carers themselves individually and through local support groups; and the Independent Living Project - the Manager of this project supports recipients of Independent Living Funds or Direct Payments in organising their own care. This may take the form of assisting with recruitment, training and employment responsibilities. The Centre provides respite and Easter and Summer playschemes for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In addition, children and young people are offered 1:1 support to allow them to attend mainstream leisure activities. Autism awareness training has also been provided at the Centre. Self-referrals accepted.
