The Paediatric Communication Aids Service (PCAS) is an assessment, training and resource service. Referrals can be made to the service by families, carers and/or professionals but the agreement of the local Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). Initial assessments are carried out by a SLT and possibly occupational therapist and/or ICT advisor, if appropriate. Communication aids are loaned out as part of the assessment process. Training is also provided on a regular basis. PCAS is involved with different disabilities and conditions, seeking to provide an effective and efficient means of communication for those with communication difficulties. Clients can be visited at home or in their nursery, school or college.
