The name of the provision for children with autism is the Pembroke School Autism Centre. The Autism Centre is attached to a mainstream secondary school. Pupils are educated in the Centre and are also able to access mainstream lessons, with support and to different degrees. In the Centre, social skills programs are taught in different groups according to levels of functioning. The Centre offers Exercise, Gym, Swimming and Yoga sessions Certificated Agored courses in literacy, numeracy, horticulture, small animal care, life skills and cookery. City and Guilds courses in horse care and skills for working life are also offered. Work experience is arranged where possible. Some pupils also access a woodland group. We have four units in our Autism Centre, of which 3 units are in a secure centre base and one unit is in mainstream to promote inclusion/independence. Volunteers within the school may be accepted to work with the pupils with appropriate checks.
