Pendle Community High School & College
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
Pendle Community High School & College (PCHS & C) is a co-located, maintained day special school which caters for young people aged 11-19 years, with a range of learning needs and disabilities including those on the autism spectrum. PCHS & C has a school nurse and weekly liaison with physio and occupational therapists which through continual staff training (and provision of our Physical Development Team) enables us to meet an extensive range of medical and physical needs. In addition we have a part time speech & language therapist who works with the staff to deliver targeted support within class and/or within discreet language groups. All pupils have a communication profile. The campus opened in 2008 and has a range of facilities including specifically within PCHS & C a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and soft play space. Classrooms are sufficiently large enough to enable personalised provision of Teach areas. Co-location also means we have an extensive inclusion programme giving access to a range of additional qualifications offered by ourselves. Placement requests are made through the Local Authority (LA). All young people must have a statement of special educational needs (SEN) and be resident in the main within the districts of Pendle & Burnley. On the request of other neighbouring LA's young people may be placed also at PCHS & C.
