Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Residential schools, Schools

Philpots Manor School is a residential special school and training centre based on the principles of Rudolf Steiner. It was founded in 1959 to offer an education to children with special needs who, because of their own particular difficulties, have been unable to learn and develop within the setting of an ordinary school. The children the school are most able to help have a broad range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. These difficulties may stem from social deprivation, abuse or from a recognised clinical condition such as epilepsy, a developmental disorder or an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Children will be accepted providing they have the ability to manage a classroom situation, where they are helped to reach their full potential. Pupils are taught in classes of up to 6 pupils. Another disability and condition catered for is Attachment Disorder. Total number of pupils/students with an ASD: 10. Of those with a diagnosis how many have high functioning autism or Asperger syndrome: 6.
