Phoenix School is a special school which offers a service to the children of Tower Hamlets. We admit children with severe language and communication difficulties whose needs lie within the autism spectrum. The school has a multi ethnic population which reflects the diversity of the borough. The school has 75% of its pupils in receipt of free school meals. Since January 2002 Outreach support has been given to pupils with autism currently placed in mainstream schools. The school offers a range of sensory and therapeutic interventions and a multidisciplinary approach to pupil needs. The school has developed a holistic approach working in partnership other agencies, parents and families to have their needs met from one centre. The school has a designated Educational Psychologist one day per week. There are speech and language therapists working at Phoenix and with Outreach schools. We receive support from Clinical Psychology Services and have an Occupational Therapist who is based on site. There is a strong focus on maintaining good relationships between home and school. The school has separate primary, secondary and 6th form facilities. The Bow Building which accommodates 6th form was completed in January 2013 and offers facilities. The school is able to offer a sensory curriculum and has the following specialist areas - sensory theatre, water therapy and soft play areas. Class sizes are small and set according to the needs of each group of pupils.
