Pontville School is a provider of provision for young people with social communication difficulties. This includes a range of communication difficulties such as: autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Asperger syndrome, speech and language and semantic pragmatic difficulties. The curriculum within the school incorporates the National Curriculum but has been modified to offer a basis of learning communication skills on which all other schemes of work have been based. This ensures that learning is meaningful and relevant for life long development. The school has three qualified speech and language therapists and offers a range of intervention to meet individual needs. Class sizes range from 4 to 8 in size to minimise distraction and maximise teacher and support staff input. A range of external qualification and accreditation are available. Within the school pupils can access awards such as ASDAN (Key Steps and Youth Award), AQA Units, Entry Level Certificates and GCSEs. Within the college environment students can also access Entry level and NVQ in Catering and BTech Working Skills (Construction and Land Based Studies), each curriculum area has its own resourced base. The school also has a range of residential facilities and care homes for those requiring 38/52 week provision. Respite services are just for their own pupils. It has links with local schools/colleges for re-integration and wider accreditation opportunities. It caters for speech/language impairments and mindfulness.
