Positive Response Training
Main information
Type of service: Training providers, Training providers
Positive Response Training provides in-house Positive Behaviour Management (PBM) training to organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. The training is suitable for staff working with adults, young people or children with an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder or acquired brain injury who also present challenging behaviour. Courses include 2-3 day direct care staff training or 10 day train the trainer courses which enable organisations to run their own in-house training. PBM emphasises a proactive and preventative approach for managing the presentation of challenging behaviour, focusing on ecological and antecedent intervention. The training model has a strong values base, promoting the importance of inclusion and social validity. PBM also emphasises the importance of a gradient of support in which the least intrusive approaches (defusion/distraction) are employed before more intrusive approaches (breakaways/safe holding) are introduced. All the techniques included in the training programme avoid the use of pain, provide a uniform response for dealing with aggressive behaviour and are tailored to meet individual need..
