Rookery Hove
Main information
Type of service: Residential services
Rookery Hove is a specialist service offering both male and female young adults who have Asperger syndrome the opportunity to work towards independent living. Residents living at Rookery Hove are aged between 18 and 35 years and have a diagnosis of Asperger syndrome and/or associated disorders. Placements are for 52 weeks of the year and usually 3 or 5 years in length. Each resident has their own life skills programme which is designed to meet their individual needs and enable them to reach their full potential in terms of independent community living. There is usually an education or vocational component to an individual's development plan which focuses on providing further academic and work experience opportunities and can be tailored to any ability level. A range of therapy programmes are offered; all designed to further a resident's progress by improving their social functioning, reducing anxieties and equipping them with strategies to cope with everyday life. Referrals to the service can originate from a wide series of sources including parents, social workers and teachers. Staff will freely give information to enquirers about the service and the admission process. Involving a funding agency from an early stage in the process is advised to improve the chances of a successful referral.
