Sensory Teaching Pool, Ilkeston

Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies, Play and leisure

Victoria Park Leisure Centre now has a sensory sound and lighting system in its teaching pool to offer extra enjoyment and therapy for children with disabilities. The interactive, multi-sensory system is the first of its kind in the area. The warmth, therapeutic music, the sensation of weightlessness and attention-grabbing moving colours and shapes have all been proved to be beneficial for children with special needs and greatly advantageous for those with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a wide range of disabilities. The system will be used regularly as part of the pool programme and can also be used to enhance children's parties held at the Leisure Centre.
