Sketchley Hill Menphys Nursery provides learning opportunities for pre-school children aged 2-5 years with a wide range of difficulties and special educational needs. Every child is supported by focusing on individual needs, experiences and backgrounds. Parents who decide they would like their child to attend the nursery would have to approach an Educational Psychologist to recommend a place for them. Within the nursery there are two main teaching areas comprising of a wet/messy area and quiet area. There is a toileting area for facilities to meet the needs of all children. A quiet withdrawal room is available for assessment purposes and individual work. The nursery is equipped with a soft play room, multi-sensory room and a therapy room which is used by visiting Occupational and Physiotherapists. Touch-screen computers and a range of switch activated toys offer children ways of developing their ICT skills in motivating ways. The outside play areas are secure and fully fenced. Within the outdoor area there is play equipment which is accessible for wheelchair users. There is a nature area and gardening plot which children use to grow vegetables. Regular swimming sessions are offered at a local school in Burbage and regular trips and outings are available. Children attending nursery are entitled to free transport to and from the nursery each day. Pupils on the autism spectrum are educated in mixed group, 1:1 with adult, or in small groups with others on the autism spectrum.
