Dr Mandy Smiton works within the private sector, specialising in children, adolescents and their families. She is committed to establishing a nurturing and supportive therapeutic environment in which children can resolve their difficulties and improve their quality of life. Dr Smiton offers assessment and treatment for a range of difficulties including: Asperger syndrome, high-functioning autism; anxiety; obsessive compulsive disorder; depression; anger; Tourettes syndrome; sleep; toileting and behavioural difficulties..
Dr Smiton has specialised in working with children and adolescents with autistic spectrum disorders for over ten years. She is experienced in carrying out diagnostic assessments for autistic spectrum disorders through parent interview, collaboration with school and other professionals and observation of the child in school or nursery where appropriate. Trained in using the ADOS-2 for assessment with the child, she works with parents in helping them to manage behaviour at home, as well as doing therapeutic work with children/adolescents to help with emotion management, behaviour and specific difficulties such as OCD. .
Dr Smiton is also experienced in working with children who may have an additional diagnosis (e.g. ADHD, Tourettes). She can provide support and advice to schools where appropriate, make home visits and attend tribunals or educational appeals committees. .
