Main information
Type of service: Training providers, Interventions and therapies, Training providers
Soundabout is a charity that works with staff in special needs settings to train them in the use of interactive musical techniques as a tool for developing communication skills for young people with autism spectrum disorders, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Their technqiues are very simple and can be mastered by anyone. They promote self expression and interaction, encourage well-being and help to build relationships through "making music". The soundabout approach fufills many of the requirements of the Ofsted inspection and the aims of the National Music Plan for giving wider access to music education for all students. Their training takes place in schools, colleges and children's centres. They also have the Baby Soundabout project that works with babies and toddlers with severe disabilities and their families/carers.
