This Consensus service offers accommodation for individuals with learning disabilities and associated complex needs. It specialises in supporting people with Angelman Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Conditions and Challenging Behaviour. There are 12 en-suite bedrooms with nurse call systems. One of the bedrooms comprises an upstairs apartment with independent access to enable individuals to experience more independent living. Communal areas include a lounge, an activity room, a further quiet room, spacious dining room and a garden used for outdoor activities. Southwold is situated within a five minute walk of Leigh-on-Sea's attractive seafront and a two minute walk to a number of local amenities such as shops, cafes, restaurants and hairdressers. Individuals using the service are supported to actively engage in community life and utilise facilities such as local theatres, a bowling alley and cinema. Some individuals enjoy attending college and others are supported to play a role in the upkeep of the service, such as assisting and preparing their own meals, shopping and general domestic duties. The service has its own transport that is used to take individuals on day trips or visits, enabling people using the service to engage in community life as much or as little as they wish.
